Johnny Rotten Trump

John Lydon, otherwise known as the legendary Johnny Rotten, has confirmed that he will be voting for Trump in the 2020 election.  Speaking with the BBC, Lydon had strong views on the matter.

“Seems to me that what the Democrats here in America are promising will be tax hikes beyond belief, more lockdowns, more confusion, more bureaucracy, and less answers.”

When asked if he will be voting for Donald Trump, he said “Yes, I am!  I’m going to definitely!  I have seen what Democrats have done to California, they have destroyed this place.”

Lyden also understands the constant attacks toward President Trump as being a racist.  Most recently, Trump has been attacked for refusing to denounce white supremacy which is simply not true.  As Summit.news reports:

Lydon expanded on his reasoning for supporting Trump, noting that he identified with Trump constantly being accused of racism on a whim.

“I’ve been accused of the very same thing, so I’m offended for anybody who’s called that,” Lydon said.

“Of course I’m anti-racism,” Lydon emphasised.

He also commented on the death of George Floyd, noting “There’s not anyone I know anywhere that wouldn’t say that wasn’t ghastly… It doesn’t mean all police are nasty or all white folk are racist. Because all lives matter.”

Johnny Rotten supporting Trump in the election is a pretty distinct break away from other punk rock icons.  Others who I grew up with as idols as a punk rocker myself have included the likes of Jello Biafra and Anti-Flag, both of which used to preach about the dangers of media and government lies.  These days however, it seems like the racial and contentious narratives of the media are one in the same with these punks, leaving Lydon as one of the few remaining still bucking the system.
