Trump announced on Twitter that he and the First Lady took the test for COVID19 and came back positive.
There are three separate aspects to review here: The Facts, The Response, and The Coup.
First, The Facts
Not much else is known about the condition of the President and First Lady. A memorandum was released from the physician to the President that states they are both well at this time and are beginning quarantine within the White House.
It is not certain if this is intended to indicate an asymptomatic positive result or not, but Trump is expected to continue carrying out his duties from the White House as usual.
As to be expected, the response from political opponents on social media has been less than cordial. Just as they booed the President for showing his respect for the late Justice Ginsburg, the response to the news of positive testing is lacking in any decency as well.
The internet has never been known as a place of respect or even common courtesy. In fact, it has always reveled in being the dark outlet for humanity, and this is of course going to be no different. However, it is the same tolerant and loving types who are always so quick to hate.
Now to be clear, this piece is not to scream about the dangers of COVID19. There is no about face in our reporting here. The number of false positive tests, especially cautionary tests known as pillar 2, are through the roof.
The revisions to deaths caused by COVID19 were revised by 94% due to attributed deaths having an average of 2.6 additional comorbidities according to the CDC. By all measurements, a positive test for COVID19 by Trump and Melania is by no means a worry all by itself.
So why be concerned?
The paranoid conspiracy theorist who lives deep inside had the instinctive thought: What if they use this to attempt to kill the president? His age puts him in the vulnerability range. They’re consistently criticizing him for the “mishandling” of the outbreak, and their rhetoric has revolved more and more around contesting the election and a forcible removal of office than a standard election victory.
But that’s not news. That is a theory. And then there is this statement from Dr. Reiner as reported by Raw Story:
“The continuity of government requires that we have a clear leader here and it’s very possible the president and the vice president can both become sick right now,” he explained. “So, I would limit activity for the Speaker of the House and make sure she’s really isolated and in a relatively sterile environment.”
She, the Speaker of the House, of course is Nancy Pelosi. And it’s not the first time Continuity of Government has been brought up this election cycle either. Nancy Pelosi boasted of meetings herself in regards to transition of power.
It is too early to know what the future holds. But it is certainly interesting to see how the narrative is continuing to build.
