Pascale Cecile Veronique Ferrier, who we will refer to as Canadian Karen, confessed to authorities Sunday that she was responsible for sending letters that contain ricin to President Trump.
CNBC reports that Canadian Karen had a loaded firearm and a knife in her possession at the time of her apprehension. She was at the US border in Buffalo when she told authorities that she was the one wanted by the FBI.
The Wall Street Journal had reported previously that the letters had appeared to have been sent from Canada. While not discussing details of the ongoing investigation, a spokesperson for Canada’s Public Safety Minister Bill Blair confirmed they are working with US officials.
Some contents of the letters were filed in an affidavit for the case. Giving Trump her own nick name of “Ugly Tyrant Clown,” AP reports she also wrote:
“Give up and remove your application for this election,” according to an FBI affidavit filed in the case.
“So I made a ‘special gift’ for you to make a decision. This gift is in this letter,” she wrote, according to the affidavit. “If it doesn’t work, I’ll find better recipe for another poison, or I might use my gun when I’ll be able to come. Enjoy! FREE REBEL SPIRIT.”
Motive also seems to have been outlined in the letters. Canadian Karen was concerned about the well being of family that she has residing within the United States, and therefore was adamant about the outcome of the upcoming election.
Trump has been largely blamed for the handling of the coronavirus outbreak, including accusations of negligent homicide as a result of campaign rallies.
Apparently motivated after learning that her attempted ricin attack on President Trump was not successful, she had intended to carry out her attack as she was entering the country with her weapons.
It is unclear why she would then turn herself in upon arrival.
